Nick is a professional biologist who works on the assessment, restoration, and management of species and ecosystems in coastal BC. He has a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from UBC (1993), and a master's in plant ecology from UBC’s Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability (2003).
His professional work focuses on biological monitoring, watershed assessment and stormwater planning, urban environmental design, and landscape ecology. He has worked extensively for local governments on biodiversity and sustainability topics such as the City of Surrey’s green infrastructure network planning, and also led biodiversity and urban forest planning for the City of Vancouver from 2013 to 2019 including the City’s first Biodiversity Strategy. He often works at the intersection of environmental and human values such as cultural aspects of biodiversity management.
