As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Current Environmental provided biological services in support of impact assessment, permitting, design, and Environmental Monitoring for a flood protection project on the Cowichan and Koksilah Rivers.
The project involved a partnership between the project team, Cowichan Tribes, City of Duncan, Cowichan Valley Regional District, and Municipality of North Cowichan.
This is a multi-year project that involved large-scale counter-flood infrastructure construction (LWD revetments, sediment management, groundsill installation, dike upgrades, etc), salvage of over 10,000 fish and other wildlife, and the temporary diversion of the Cowichan River several times to mitigate construction-related erosion into fish bearing waters.
